US based Centina is putting a lot of effort towards extending the automation of assuring networks. Among a number of industry innovations, the company has added support for Machine Learning anomaly detection to learn what’s normal over time for a provider’s network and then alert and take action when metrics trend out of normal.
This level of information is extremely helpful for telecom operators in order to better understand the behavior of their networks and act accordingly.
Anand Gonuguntla, CEO, Centina speaks with Zia Askari from TelecomDrive.com about the company’s current focus of activities and its future plans.
What are the key priorities for you as an organization today?
Centina is focused on helping service providers address the challenges of assuring customer services in a fast-paced evolution towards virtualized environments. Legacy fault and performance monitoring tools are not able to handle the complex visualization and correlation requirements of hybrid networks consisting of both physical and virtual-based services.
Though virtual services hold the promise of added flexibility and on-demand, zero touch adaptation and self-healing, the added network complexity and disaggregation of virtual services make service assurance all-the-more challenging and critical.
Key priorities for Centina are real-time optimization and remediation through closed-loop automation, continuing to extend our capabilities in network and service analytics as well as troubleshooting and correlation through Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.
How do you look at enabling cost effective digital transformation for telecoms?
Effective transformation depends on solutions that can support next-generation networks and services as well as legacy systems. Service providers need solutions that have out-of-the-box support for these hybrid networks along with a robust, flexible user interface to allow providers to easily configure and customize solutions as needed without costly ongoing services. vSure addresses these challenges with its support for 1000s of device-types with its Smart Plug-ins and advanced administrative GUI that allows business owners to configure functionality without programmers and engineers.
What are some of the big innovations that are being driven by Centina today?
Centina is focusing on extending the automation of assuring networks. Centina has also added support for Machine Learning anomaly detection to learn what’s normal over time for a provider’s network and then alert and take action when metrics trend out of normal.
What are some of the challenges that you see in front of the telecom Industry today? How can these be overcome?
The Telecom industry is faced with growing competition due to non-traditional providers and OTT players and revenue increasingly moving to application providers. The telecom providers are being relegated to being “pipe providers” with commoditized offerings and future revenue and innovations coming from advanced services and applications. Service providers are challenged with staying relevant in the over-the-top, app-driven, always connected world of the future.

Centina is focusing on ever-faster automation and correlation through event anomaly detection to identify more advanced, long-term patterns, configuration-aware issue resolution detection, as well as assisted and autonomous resolution, more advanced performance forecasting and capacity planning. The roadmap also includes support for expanding and evolving IoT service assurance.
How do you look at playing an important role towards weaving future proof network fabric?
Centina has designed a future-proof assurance solution that can easily be adapted to future technologies and protocols by leveraging our adaptable and extensible Smart Plug-in technology to interface and communicate with current and future communication protocols such as streaming telemetry and any evolving technologies.
